After a long summer break on this blog, here is a “beach” series to slowly get out of summer.
It was December 28, late afternoon on a beach in Gran Canaria.
Après une longue pause estivale sur ce blog, voilà une série “plage” pour sortir doucement de l’été.
C’était un 28 décembre, en fin d’après-midi sur une plage de Gran Canaria.
A trip for the end of the year celebrations…? After talking about it for a few years, the planets have finally aligned so we can go.
The destination was uncertain. Cold and snow? Heat and Africa? An island in the sun? The children and several factors made us choose the contrast with the region where we live. So we went to the Canary Islands.
One week on the beautiful Lanzarote and the second week on the “less beautiful” Gran Canaria … But I will come back to this later in other articles.
For the choice of photo equipment, it was as usual complicated… I can never make up my mind.
Leaving with a film camera? A digital? Both ? Go light? Leaving with all my equipment? And the drone then...? The day before leaving, I still didn't know. So I tried to fit as many things as possible in my bag.
A few weeks before leaving, I sold one of my children to get five Portra 400. I also had a few B&W films left in stock. Since we had planned to spend a week in Lanzarote and a week in Gran Canaria, I decided to shoot only film the first week of the trip because the island of Lanzarote inspired me more than the other. I made four color rolls and one in B&W and I am once again very happy with the work that the Carmencita Film Lab did on my images. The colors are superb and the quality of the files is insane. I can't wait to see the enlargements.
I also did a lot of digital images in Lanzarote. I may come back to these images later. But I feel that they will mature quite a while on my hard drive before I come back to them.
This island is really special. It's crazy how a single man could mark a place as is the case on Lanzarote with Manrique. It's beautiful, it's clean, it's bizarre, it's intense, it's preserved. It's black, it's white, and the wine is good!

Un voyage pour les fêtes de fin d’année…? Après en avoir parlé pendant quelques années, les planètes se sont enfin alignées pour que nous puissions partir.
La destination était incertaine. Le froid et la neige? La chaleur et l’Afrique? Une île au soleil? Les enfants et plusieurs facteurs ont fait que nous avons choisi le contraste par rapport à la région où nous vivons. Nous sommes donc partis aux Canaries.
Une semaine sur la magnifique Lanzarote et la deuxième semaine sur la “moins belle” Gran Canaria… Mais j’y reviendrai plus tard dans d’autres articles.
Pour le choix du matériel photo, ce fût comme d’habitude compliqué… Je n’arrive jamais à me décider.
Partir avec un appareil argentique? Un numérique? Les deux? Partir léger? Partir avec tout mon matériel? Et le drone alors…? La veille avant de partir, je ne savais toujours pas. J’ai donc essayé de faire rentrer le maximum de choses dans mon sac.
Quelques semaines avant de partir, j’ai vendu un de mes enfants pour me procurer cinq Portra 400. Il me restait aussi quelques pellicules N&B en stock. Vu que nous avions prévu de passer une semaine à Lanzarote et une semaine à Gran Canaria, j’ai décidé de shooter uniquement en argentique la première semaine du voyage parce que l’île de Lanzarote m’inspirait plus que l’autre. J’ai fait quatre pellicules couleur et une en N&B et je suis encore une fois très content du travail que Carmencita Film Lab a fait sur mes images. Les couleurs sont superbes et la qualité des fichiers est dingue. Il me tarde de voir les agrandissements.
J’ai aussi fait beaucoup d’images en numérique à Lanzarote. Je reviendrai peut être sur ces images plus tard. Mais je sens qu’elles vont murir pas mal de temps sur mon disque dur avant que je revienne dessus.
Cette île est vraiment spéciale. C’est fou comme un seul homme a pu marquer un endroit comme c’est le cas sur Lanzarote avec Manrique. C’est beau, c’est propre, c’est bizarre, c’est intense, c’est préservé. C’est noir, c’est blanc, et le vin est bon!
